Welcome to the Red Elephant
Gallery—our family owned and run online gallery. In a time of big box stores and mass-production we celebrate the creativity of American artisans and offer better alternatives for our customers. We love the intimacy of the American craft world, especially knowing that each order we place with an artist supports another American small business and other families just like ours.
Why the Red Elephant you say? Well, it all started on a spring afternoon in Santa Fe in 2001. After spending the day searching for treasures on the mountain road leading to Taos, Karen and her aunt were discussing the day’s adventures over a glass . . . or two . . . of wine and watching these fantastic steel plate elephant sculptures out of the hotel window. They were huge, and their heads were on pivots so that when the wind caught their ears their heads went up and down as if they were running across a field. And it was windy!
Walking to dinner that night we found one smaller shiny red elephant hiding around the corner and fell in love with him immediately. In the plot to justify the purchase of such an elephant (I did mention there was wine involved) the concept of the
Red Elephant Gallery was born and then launched in the spring of 2004.
We strive to provide a wide range of unique, American handmade items in a broad range of colors and styles. No matter your budget or taste you will always be able to find that special gift for that special someone--which, of course, could be you!
Happy hunting! We hope that you find what you’re looking for and visit us again soon!
