Underglaze — ceramics
A decorative technique used in where Pigment is added to a wet, unfired piece of pottery which is then coated with glaze. The pigment fuses with the glaze when the piece is fired in a kiln, and appears to be under a layer of clear glaze. The opposite technique is overglazing.

Vermeil — handcrafted jewelry, metal
(pronounced vur‒MAY) A combination of sterling silver, gold, and other precious metals commonly used as a component in jewelry. A typical example is sterling silver coated with 14‒carat gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must also be at least 10‒carat and be at least 1.5 micrometers thick. Sterling silver covered with another metal cannot be called vermeil. Vermeil can be produced by either fire‒gilding or electrolysis. Today, vermeil is produced by electrolysis for safety reasons.
