Recycled Materials Jewelry by Willy Jewelry | |
Willy Scholten says of her handcrafted jewelry - "As a child I would already use alternative materials, like shelled peanuts and matches, to lay down drawings on the family floor. Later, as an exhibiting sculptor I worked with anything from window screens to car doors. These days I still recycle whatever I can find around me. As a jeweler living in Silicon Valley, I use predominantly technical surplus: Steel mesh, Springs, lugs nuts and colorful rubber. These materials offer a wonderful contrast in shape and texture to traditional sterling silver and pearls giving the jewelry a contemporary edge.”
