Liz Kinder Ceramics | |
In 1994 after completing one of those ridiculous trips: cycling for 5 months with Irish boyfriend through Central America, Liz experiences cliché traveling epiphany about making ceramics her life. She sells her bike to chef Joseph Manzare who upon seeing her fabulous work orders bowls, platters and a massive vase for his new restaurant in San Francisco, “Globe”. Liz gets so many orders from the exposure at Globe, business is booming. Good time to move to England.
She decides to further her studies at London’s Royal College of Art and in 2000 graduates with a master’s degree from the Ceramics and Glass department.
Back in the US, in 2001 Bunny, her Volvo, martyrs herself to the cause of her ceramics business and gets totaled by a drunk dot-comer in a rented Jaguar. Insurance money buys two kilns to set up a summer studio in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.
Last year Liz piled clay, glazes, furniture and a loud Siamese cat into her brother's truck and moved to Philadelphia where she installed a 5,000 lb. kiln THROUGH A WINDOW into a
ridiculously massive building that she can't really afford. She’s planning to buy it this year anyway...
She still makes all of her work herself and says of her art “I am known for my sense of color. I enjoy myself the most when I am glazing.” |
